In March we released together with The Arcane Tapes label a very special demo cassette of Mabbul, a very unique and enigmatic band from Mexico. My initial intention was to make a very in depth interview with the guys behind the Mabbul, but they were not so communicative… So first let the music speaks for itself, then read this short interview with the band!

YGFAN was formed in 2013 in Budapest, Hungary as a 4-piece adopting a unique way of spiritual black metal. New album follows on the same route, expect innovative, atmospheric, gloomy, black metal rooted music, where cutting riffs meets soul-searching spiritual harmonies. The new album "Hamvakból..." (From the Ashes) will see the light of day in May 2018 through Sun & Moon Records.

Old Grave Fest (powered by Romanian Thrash Metal Club)

One of the best underground metal indoor festivals is the Romanian “Old Grave Fest” from Bucharest, organized in the first part of October every year by RTMC. We have the chance to talk with 2 members from this insane company, please welcome Cristina & Traian, put some early Slayer records on the turntable, bang your head, drink some beer and enjoy this fine chat!  

Alan Averill Nemtheanga is the busy bee, already proving his chameleonic vocal skills in Twilight of the Gods, Blood Revolt, Void of Silence and…Primordial. His latest child is Dread Sovereign, a very interesting ritualistic doom entity, where Alan also writes the music and plays the bass.

There is a dark, but clean, atmospheric but elegant sensitivity in their music you can only find in artists like TENHI, or DEATH IN JUNE. You also have the subtle funeral jazz, dark jazz orchestrations reminding you the nostalgia of the 60s Italian movies, so fans of ANGELO BADALAMENTI or BOHREN UND DER CLUB OF GORE could favorably enjoy the art of these four gentlemen. VOWELS is the Paleolithic man trying to find his place in the asphalted metropolises of the new age. An album which didn’t falls into any trends, not even traditions. One of the pleasant surprises of the year.

THE WIZAR’D are coming from the distant shores of Tasmania.  Metal (or doom metal) always have a different approach when comes from such remote places. They carry on with the ancient spirit started by Tony Iommy, Paul Chain with the addition of bits of Pagan Altar and Witchfinder General’s heavy/proto-doom and even slices from monoliths like Saint Vitus and Reverend Bizarre. THE WIZAR’D is Darkness, Misery and Doom combined with a lawbreaker attitude. Sailor captain of the rogue doom-ship, owner of Heavy Chains Records and speech-organ of the band Ol’ Rusty Vintage Wizard Master bravely resisted all our questions.

There is no band that plays Doom Metal more English than SOLSTICE. There is something specific English in their music beyond the massive riffs and epic vocals. There are centuries of history hidden in the sounds of this institution of Doom Metal. I talked with mastermind/guitar-player Rich Walker and singer Paul Kearns.

František Štorm (born 3 July 1966) is a Czech typographer of international acclaim, a musician, artist, teacher and author. His book Eseje o typografii (Essays on Typography) was nominated for the Magnesia Litera Award (2009).

Štorm studied at the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague, graduating in 1991 and immediately becoming assistant to Jan Solpera at the Studio of Typography. Later, in 2003, Štorm became head of the Studio and remained in the position until 2008. In 1993, Štorm founded his Storm Type Foundry, a small type foundry for his own work. So far, Štorm has produced more than sixty font families. Štorm is, outside the area of typography, probably best known as the singer/guitarist of the legendary black metal band Master's Hammer.

The Proust Questionnaire is a questionnaire about one's personality. Its name and modern popularity as a form of interview is owed to the responses given by the French writer Marcel Proust.

At the end of the nineteenth century, when Proust was still in his teens, he answered a questionnaire in an English-language confession album belonging to his friend Antoinette, daughter of future French President Félix Faure, entitled An Album to Record Thoughts, Feelings, etc.

Nuit Noire plays “Fäerical blasting punk” states Tenebras, the main creator behind this odd musical entity. According to his music, lyrics, artworks and lyrics you could bet Tenebras is at least a bizarre individual, but I had the surprise to talk with a very down-to-earth man. Nuit Noire started in the previous millennium, in 1997 and since then he released a good brace of albums, EPs, splits. Don’t Fear to Go through the Window!

Abysmal Grief, Italy’s special funeral choral service released an outstanding album last year. I talked about the new album, horror movies, Italy, past, present & future with main composer Regen Graves. Enjoy!

Black Metal of Death! from Denmark

Do you remember Aeternus from Norway from the 90’s? “Beyond the Wandering Moon” and “…and so the Night Became” are all time classic metal releases from Norway! After 7 years of silence Aternus are back with a new album and they are active again on stages too, so last year I met with Ares (the main man behind this legendary band) at the Brutal Assault Festival. Before their crushing Stage Club concert we have had a fine chat in the backstage. Sadly my Blackberry sometimes stopping recording that fine conversation, but finally you can read a very interesting talk with past, present and future about Aeternus! Enjoy!
